Thinking about adopting a dog? Not only is dog adoption an awesome way to help disadvantaged dogs find new homes, adopting a dog is a rewarding experience, they recognize that you have saved them by giving them a second chance and they will give back with love tenfold.
If you have your heart set on a specific dog breed, before you check out a breeder or pet store, why not at least look into dog adoption as a option?
25% of all dogs in a shelter are purebred. There are also lots of specific dog breed rescue groups that specialize in a particular breed of dog. Don’t be fooled into thinking that animal shelters and dog rescues are filled with dogs that were discarded because they’re “bad”. Shelter dogs for adoption are wonderful companions who became the victims of family tragedy, unlucky circumstances or irresponsible owners. Did you know that many backyard dog breeders and pet stores who supply the majority of purebreds simply are selling inbred pets without care for preventing genetic problems? Mixed breed dogs have less inbreeding, generally less inherited genetic disease, and therefore overall lower vet bills and happier dogs! And the best place to find a mixed breed is right here!

I wanted to write an updated review of 2nd Chance, as I wrote one previously but we only had the one pup then!
We rescued our first a few years back and she was an absolute dream - the perfect fit into our house and was checked out thoroughly by an experienced and friendly home checker.
We got so much aftercare from the charity and we’re invited into an adopters page where everyone is so friendly!
Fast forward a couple of years and in 2021, we decided to start looking for another dog to join Rosie. We of course reached out to 2nd Chance with the hopes they would be able to find another perfect fit… and of course they did.
Cue Raymond arriving in the UK in 2021 🐶
We had a couple of teething problems with the dogs like resource guarding (which support was offered, taken and acted upon so nothing escalated) and now our dogs are like a match made in 2nd Chance heaven!!
Highly recommend the charity for the dogs are looked after to the highest standard, their processes are thorough, they aftercare is second to none. Everyone is just amazing💗
We adopted our first pup from 2nd Chance in March 2020. Doris Karayianni was on the phone with me constantly, explaining things and making sure we knew what we were getting in for. Once Taison came, they kept checking up on us from 2nd Chance Dogs, to make sure we had everything we needed and that Taison was getting along with our senior dogs and our little children. When we decided to get another pup, Vicky Antoniou was amazing, driving back and forth to Limassol constantly to make sure that Taison got along (and accepted) the new pup into our home. Through downpours and cold, we walked up and down the pavements. We did everything that was recommended and finally managed to have True come and stay with us too. Everyone has been so helpful and friendly and supportive. I talk about 2nd Chance to everyone I know and tell them what an amazing job they are doing. We have 2 extremely happy pups (and 2 not so happy seniors to have 2 pups running around like crazy) and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Thank you 2nd Chance for trusting us with these wonderful dogs. They have changed our lives for the better (even though I could make do without the 5.15am wake up call every day to do a wee)!
I had been in contact with the charity from February 2021, and had a few mismatches before I successfully adopted and received my boy Flynn through 2nd Chance in June. The team showed me that they and compassionate and non-judgmental when I felt a potential match wasn't best suited to my circumstances, and also they then advised me honestly when they felt I wasn't best suited to a few other dogs. However, when the right dog did come along, they gave encouragement and advice, answered all my questions, quickly approved the match and the rest was smooth sailing. When I needed a bit of behavioural help for my boy, they very quickly supported and the wonderful volunteers listened to me and gave me guidance, then they enlisted an online trainer for a session for me. It was a massive help. I am so in love with my 2nd chance boy, and would definitely be looking to apply again in the future for a little playmate to add to the family, when both the time and the dog are right for me. I would highly recommend this wonderful organization. Thank you Doris, Vicky, Mary-Anne and all the wonderful team! x
It’s been 2 years since I adopted my gorgeous boy ToTo .. The states and evil and brinks of death a lot of these poor dogs have suffered is heartbreaking then there’s this pure animal Angel doris and her team 2nd chance dogs who rescue and take in these poor dogs , I’ve never known a rescue put so much love compassion rehabilitation and effort into them like they do ! ..
when I applied we discussed about my youngest child who was a toddler and my medical issues and if the dog I chose would be right so everything was covered and also discussed about ToTo so I was fully aware and if any training ect .. the process was pretty simple and the English team helped loads .. I was very blessed with ToTo and I always say He rescued me especially after the loss of my last fur baby and hard struggles and how he his with the kids 👌🏼💗
So I post this as even now if ever I needed any advice they would be straight there as well as all the other family of adopters too..so there’s great after support if needed also.
I can’t shout enough how highly I recommend 2nd chance dogs for they sure do go above and beyond 🐕👍🏼❤️
It’s 6 months since Shades came into our lives and I honestly could not recommend 2nd chance dogs more if I tried! Their knowledge and support goes above and beyond, the love they have for the dogs in their care goes beyond a rescue and lasts a lifetime, the moment you adopt you become family and that support and bond is immeasurable, we know if we need anything for Shades at anytime they would be there. They truly want nothing but the best for the dogs in their care but also the families that adopt, as long as there is a 2nd chance dogs we will always adopt through them! We rescued Ffion through 2nd Chance 5 years ago and cannot recommended them enough. When I first saw Ffion and messaged them to ask for more details , they were so quick to respond and gave great information on her and how to adopt…they made the whole process so easy and stress free. They were thorough with their home checks and very supportive. Still to this day I know they will be there for me if I needed any help/advice. Such a caring charity who I would trust 100% again to adopt a dog through!
Couldn't have asked for a better charity to adopt our boy from. Their care and dedication to all the dogs in the centre is amazing, and this follows on after the dogs have gone to their forever homes. They have answered my millions of questions, provided video calls and given their guidance and advice throughout the whole process and still continue to do so, to ensure that he adjusts to his new life here in the UK. They have been amazing, so supportive through out the whole process. They helped us choose the right two dogs for us so that when they arrived they slotted right in. These dogs are so well prepared for their new life it is a tribute to the hard work and love the whole team lavish on the dogs in their care. They are there for you through out the whole process and once the dogs arrive they are there to offer advice and support. So kind and patient with us.
I am shamelessly posting my second review, as we have just adopted our second dog from here. The professionalism and care that the 2nd Chance team show is exemplary. Over the four years since we adopted our first dog from here, the organisation has grown enough to have full charity status in the UK, but remains small enough to be flexible to deal with issues in the best way possible, such as rescuing and assisting when another rescue centre had to close on no notice. Our latest adoptee, Jimmy, arrived at his new home in the UK very well prepared and in great condition. We had been prepared to deal with a degree of nervousness and were well prepped to manage any potential issues. He had also been well prepared for the huge change his adoption meant for him. Three weeks in we cannot imagine life without him, puddle surfing and all - he has been an utter, cheeky delight from day one! This is all a testament to the experience and dedication of the wonderful team at 2nd Chance, and their support to us to help us to give Jimmy the best start. Oh, and they also do cat checks if potential adopters like us have cats. Finally, the placement for adoption is a two-way process - the centre will make sure that both adopter and dog are suited before placement. They all know the dogs so well that they are experts on this; their priority is to find the right match rather than simply move dogs on from the centre. Can not recommend them highly enough..

We saw Loki's picture and fell in love but we were reserved. Adopting a dog we have not met and he was living in Cyprus. We have cats so was worried about them to. We took the plunge and contacted 2nd Chance I have to say from that moment they answered all our questions sent videos of Loki and also showed us how Loki was around cats. The lady who did the house visit was amazing and also answered any concerns. The trainers report was spot on, on Loki's character. We have had Loki for a month now and he is such a amazing dog. But that's not the end we have now gained The 2nd Chance Adopters family and have fun updating each other how our pooches are getting on. Please dont pass 2nd Chance Dogs by they do amazing work you can tell from the dogs just how much love and care they have been given so they are ready for there forever homes.
I was nervous about adopting a dog I knew nothing about from abroad but 2nd Chance did everything they could to make me feel comfortable and I soon knew I was making the right decision.
Support was fabulous from day one and they are always there to help if any issues arise.
We love our 2nd Chance boy Buddy and are so happy that he’s in our lives.
Second chance dogs were with me every step of the way when we adopted Herbie - from super quick assessment with one of their super friendly home checkers, to a call from Doris to explain the possible behaviours and how to ensure the dog was eased in gently. Post-adoption, the team stayed in touch, loving to share videos and photos.
I couldn't have asked for anything more, as they made a scary process seem very simple and ensured I was updated at every step.
I adopted my Izzy from 2nd Chance and found them to be very professional. They are supportive of all adopters, caring and knowledgable. Their dogs get the best care while with them. A fantastic organisation that I cannot recommend highly enough.
We adopted our Delta from 2nd Chance in April 2019 after a recommendation from my best friend. The rescue couldn’t have done more to reassure us, constantly in touch throughout the process and even arranging video calls. The ethical standards are second to none and the dedication of the whole team is evident. After adoption the support continues for life. We would happily recommend anyone adopt from 2nd Chance! 🐾

Please take a moment to look at all 2nd Chance does for dogs where there is limited infrastructure to help them - my Shiloh came from them. They do amazing work x
Amazing, amazing, amazing charity! Can't recommend 2nd Chance highly enough. We got our gorgeous Della from them 6mths ago. She is everything that we were told she would be and more! Everyone we meet says what a wonderful dog she is. She has a fabulous temperament and wants to be friends with everyone. I have no doubt that this is down to the love that she was shown by Doris and her fantastic team when she was found. They continue to support you long after your dog has arrived which is so reassuring. If you decide to go ahead and adopt from 2nd chance then you won't be disappointed!

I highly recommend this rescue! Don't be put off that they are based in Cyprus. I was supported every step of the way. I was given so many photos, videos and information about my dog during the adoption process that there was absolutely no surprises when Mocca arrived. The 2nd chance team are amazing. Their caring and dedication they show to these dogs is outstanding! All the dogs are provided with assessments, rehabilitation and lots of love. Also, you get lifetime support and people that will adore any picture you ever put on Facebook of your dog 😃. I am so glad I chose 2nd chance dogs to adopt from because I got the best dog (and most beautiful) to add to our family. I will be forever grateful that they save these dogs from the most heartbreaking circumstances and work so tirelessly to enable them to have the forever families they deserve!
2nd Chance Dogs are angels on earth! When I adopted Freda I was kept up to date all the way through the process with messages, photos and videos. I am now a member of the 2nd Chance Dogs family. An exceptionally dedicated team of people who do all they can to help these poor dogs. I got my Effie from them in August 2016 and she is a wonderful dog. It took a little time to settle her in but she is worth all the time and patience that I put into her. They are a wonderful group to deal with who help you every strp of the way.
Earth Angels is what team at 2nd Chance-4Life are. They have to witness situations which would make most humans crumble. They take the worst of what humanity has done to any dog and show that dog not all humans are evil. They are united as one to save their dogs and give them the happy ever after they deserve. They give up time with their families and loved ones to save the dog's on island. Once your a member of the 2nd Chance-4Life rescue you truly know the meaning of family. Our new boy Alfie arrived in the UK on 17th May 2017. We had a holiday in Cyprus in early May and visited the Centre. Doris and her team are amazing dedicated people and the Centre is one of a kind, certainly not your average Cyprus rescue. The dogs have the best food, the best vet care and the best living conditions that a Cyprus Rescue could possibly give. Alfie was in a foster home with an amazing family whilst he was waiting for his flight. We are delighted with Alfie, he has made our family complete again and he has settled in really well and is great with our other dog. We would definitely recommend adopting a dog from 2ndchance. They are very caring people before, during and after the adoption process.
I now have adopted another dog Octavia from 2nd Chance and still stand by my original review. They are amazing, supportive - always there when you need advice. I will continue to adopt from this rescue as long as they are around. If you are thinking of adopting from 2nd Chance do not hesitate - you will not regret it. The community is brilliant - the team,the adopters and the supporters, you could not meet nicer people.
This rescue is fantastic. They work so hard to look after the dogs, with no funding and only the help of donators and their own money. The team all have full time jobs and work tirelessly to keep the animals safe, warm and fed. I adopted Ella from them a few years ago and they still continue to support me and ask me for updates on her. It was an easy process and they were always on hand to answer questions. You will not regret adopting from this rescue, it's like one big happy family.
